Unlike other music schools that put on one recital per year for their students, OM encourages a minimum of two performances a year while providing four performance opportunities.

We schedule these performances around our students’ needs. Once the summer is over, and people are back to a consistent schedule, we set the motivator of an early December performance date to propel and guide our students towards excellence. Then, after a short winter break, most students are back and immediately have another performance to work towards in May. We do this because checking in with yourself via a performance is a great way to assess where you are. It’s a great driver for practice, and an assured way to maintain a consistent practice routine throughout the year without losing steam.

To the subject of 4 performances a year. In addition to recitals, OM puts on showcases, which are held in contemporary performance venues like Durty Nellis, Grandpas, 210 Brewing, and the Cubby Bear. Our students stand under the lights, plug in, get up to the mic, and perform on the same stages that so many local, regional and national acts do. For students who are already contemporary performers in their own bands, or for those who want to be, the showcase is an opportunity to flex those muscles.

Now,  if you really want to flex, or up your game as a contemporary musician, OM has a state-of-the-art recording studio within our school. You can come and record your solo project, your band, or even just book a session to practice recording. (It’s an art.)

Want to learn more about the recording process? We have a class for that. Want to learn mic technique? We have a class for that. Want to learn how to produce or record your band? We have a class for that too.

So, we’ve got 4 performances a year, an in-house recording studio, teachers who boost your musicianship AND help you learn to use the technology you need be a musician in a contemporary setting. Not to mention our adult group classes, jam sessions, and a fully equipped band rehearsal space.
