Leah Shoshana
Voice and Songwriting
Leah Shoshanah is a Chicago-based singer, songwriter and Spiritual musician whose deeply felt, soulful music grows from folk, pop, funk, rock and jazz. Over the past decade, Shoshanah has sung on historic stages in Chicago and across the world. Her original music has been featured in two documentaries, including Blown Away, an acclaimed German movie about two audio engineers who made an album while sailing around the world. In 2019, Shoshanah played a 51-date tour in Germany as part of the movie release. When she returned, she began writing the music for her latest album, _To Be Free_, which received funding from a Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs (DCASE) grant.
As a teacher, Leah guides her students toward building a life-long relationship with the creative process. She supports individuals and groups of all ages in finding their personal connection to music through songwriting, voice, guitar and music production. Leah also works with young children and families, using her experience as a Wiggleworms teacher as a springboard for her own curriculum. In her classes, no matter what the instrument, she always focuses on music as a tool for connection and self-expression.
As a Cantorial Soloist, Jewish Ritualist and B’nai mitzvah mentor, Leah helps helps people find a personal connection to Jewish liturgy. She focuses on embodied prayer through singing, movement and mindfulness. Leah is currently studying with the ALEPH Jewish Renewal Seminary and with Rabbi Lynn Gottleib as she pursues Rabbinic Ordination.
